Are you ready to unlearn supremacy and apply Indigenous teachings to your work? Learn new ways of being from Squamish Elders and Decolonial Facilitators in this 5-day immersive training and transformation.

M̓i tel’nexw Leadership Transformation is an experiential learning designed with an appreciative approach that responds to improving what is currently lacking in “cultural competency” training.

Learn models of Indigenous resilience that can be applied by everyone to leadership settings now. Elders will share how the Squamish Nation has continued to thrive through overwhelming adversity while supporting their community of learners to do the same. There are teachings and love stored in the land for everyone. Through decolonizing practices, more are accessing that connection by acknowledging Indigenous territories and having gratitude for the Ancestors of those lands. Walking in a good way is the next level of that work.

This work is for you if:

  • You want to learn Squamish history and teachings from a Squamish perspective

  • You want to unlearn supremacy and racism through a holistic lens

  • You want to apply Indigenous understandings of balance & interconnection for better relations and community care

  • You want to understand how Squamish cultural training and approaches to Hereditary Chieftainship, Relational Leadership, and Wealth Distribution can lead us all to more sustainable lifestyles and consumption

The Journey

EAGLE, WAYS OF SEEING

Skwetsimeltxw Willard ‘Buddy’ Joseph, Squamish, will share an overarching view of Squamish history and the overwhelming challenges we have faced including how we have continued to anticipate and endure them. You will learn about our world view, our resilience and values with exercises designed to help you reevaluate your leadership and organizations approaches.

SALMON, WAYS OF BEING

Lloyd Attig, Plains Cree, will share the holistic teachings of the sacred salmon who takes great care of all living beings, working in balance and harmony with the earth, wind, water and fire. You will learn to live in balance and interconnection with respect for your personal and professional ecologies.

CEDAR, WAYS OF KNOWING

Ta7talíya Michelle Nahanee, Squamish, connects the Squamish practice of brushing-off to the decolonizing practice of unlearning supremacy. What liberation can be uncovered for ourselves, our communities and businesses? By dismantling colonial impacts like separation and supremacy, we can know better and do better towards an equitable future for all of us.

MOUNTAIN GOAT, WAYS OF DOING

Chepximiya Siyam’ Chief Janice George, Squamish, will teach you how to build a strong foundation for your leadership by making deep connections to the land we live on. She will share the story of carrying Hereditary Chieftainship. You will learn what it means to respect each other and connect to the teachings each and every one of us holds.

About the Organization

M̓i tel’nexw Leadership Society was founded by Chepximiya Siyam’ Chief Janice George, Skwetsimeltxw Willard ‘Buddy’ Joseph, Ta7talíya Michelle Nahanee and Lloyd Attig to weave Indigenous excellence in service of social change we see as an awakening.
