Lama Tsultrim Allione

Lama Tsultrim Allione is the bestselling author of “Women of Wisdom”, “Feeding Your Demons” and “Wisdom Rising.” She was the first American to become a Tibetan Buddhist nun, ordained in Bodhgaya India by the Sixteenth Karmapa in 1970. She lived in India and Nepal as a monastic for four years, eventually returning to the USA, disrobing and becoming the mother of three. Since 1978 she has studied and practiced the Dzogchen teachings with several great Tibetan masters, practicing in solitary retreats and in daily life. She has written about women and spirituality, particularly in the Tibetan tradition, and seeks to make traditional teachings accessible and applicable in the western world. Her bestselling book “Feeding Your Demons” has been translated into 29 languages and is the subject of several scientific studies. Lama Tsultrim is the founder of Tara Mandala, a 700-acre retreat center near Pagosa Springs, Colorado with a three-story mandala temple and many solitary retreat cabins. She guides students around the world and oversees over 40 satellite Sangha groups.

In 2007 she was recognized in Tibet as an emanation of the renowned 11th-century Tibetan yogini, Machig Labdrön whose teachings she had taught for many years. In 2009 she received the “Outstanding Woman in Buddhism” award in Bangkok, Thailand.
