
Heather Midori Yamada
Heather Midori Yamada offers contemplative approaches to spontaneous brush workshops specializing in the use of Japanese handmade washi papers. After an Hons BA in Fine Arts from Western University, Heather continued her graphic explorations – etching, lithography and collograph/monotypes in three Canadian collective print studios, Toronto’s Open Studio, Montreal’s Atelier Graff and Vancouver’s Malaspina Printmakers.
Today, Heather’s workshop demonstrations, using Japanese washi papers, include the use of high quality Japanese black sumi ink, a colour palette featuring metallic acrylics , watercolour pigments, chalk pastels and more. Her 50+ years as an exhibiting artist include national and international exposure. Heather’s artworks can be found in numerous private collections and in over 40 corporate, governmental, museum collections including The Royal Ontario Museum, The Burnaby Art Collection, Memorial University Collection, British Airways, Pfizer International, to name a few.
Heather’s daily contemplative practices of hatha yoga and meditation create the environment for continuous exploration and experimentation, spontaneous and a fresh approach to art making.
