Edzi’u
Edzi’u is an Indigiqueer Tahltan and inland Tlingit performance and sound artist, songwriter, composer currently based out of xʷməθkwəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and Səl̓ílwətaʔ territories. They received a degree in Music Composition at Vancouver Community College in 2019, with a minor in classical voice.
Edzi’u creates electronic soundscapes with audio clips of the voice and software instruments. In their work, Edzi’u expands textures and disregards form while drawing on classical songwriting elements. Edzi’u has composed for film, including the 2024 film “Forest Echoes” by Eva Grant and the 2024 film “The Birdhouse” by Romi Kim. They also have composed for dance, creating works for choreographer Daisy Thompson, and produced artists such as folk rock singer Bria Rose as well as the award winning songwriter Jasmine Netsena.
Edzi’u is an award nominated musician, and have two alt-electro pop sound art albums called Kime Ani (2018) and Potlatch in the Box (2023) as well as a four track synth-pop EP, Tunnel Vison (2024). Edzi’u’s sound and performance art installations that have been mounted in Vancouver, Victoria, Toronto, and Scotland and Stockholm.
