Murmuration

The culmination of 30 years of teaching side-by-side programs at Hollyhock comes next summer with this long-awaited collaboration! Join Margie Gillis and Rhiannon for their first joint-retreat at Hollyhock, MURMURATION. 

Murmuration is the form where body and voice meet, movement and sound, in equal measure.

The starlings move in the sky by the hundreds and thousands in formations that constantly shift and change. This inspires singers and dancers to work together in ensemble to create the human version of Murmuration while increasing skills in both forms and learning the power of shared leadership. 

Rhiannon and Margie easily share the teaching space with joy, two lifetimes of experience, and a blend of their masteries that shakes loose any fears you might have about improvisation, Vocal River forms, and moving your body everywhere you aren’t.

Experience with creating melody, rhythms and dance will put you in the middle of this wildly authentic and captivating class.

What You Can Expect

One of the gifts of Margie and Rhiannon teaching together is the seamless way they move from sound to body to movement to singing. The sessions include detailed time in both the realms of music and dance. Participants should have experience in both and be willing to dive deeper.

There will be integration time where we talk about the work that is unfolding but largely this is experiential. Come ready to improvise and find a community that supports you. 

Margie and Rhiannon perform an evening of dance and music. Participants will have the opportunity to participate.
