Form antiracist habits and behaviors and strengthen your ability to achieve your racial equity goals through Jewish spiritual practice.

Efforts to dismantle racism are often comprised of education, advocacy, and systemic change. These efforts are not enough —it’s crucial that we also do the inner work necessary to change our habits of mind, body, and spirit to wholly dismantle racism. Indeed, it’s through strengthening our habits of mind, body and spirit that we’ll be most effective and successful in our advocacy and organizing to dismantle racism systemically. We have ancestral wisdom available to support this change.

Mussar is the Jewish spiritual discipline designed to integrate what the head understands with what the heart feels through daily practice.

“This course was empowering! Because (maybe especially) since I am not Jewish, I really appreciated learning how this culture views anti-Black racism and social justice. I have a new set of skills to access when I am confronting racism in the world in which we live. Being vulnerable is hard and it is hard to share space with strangers but the community agreements made this a safe space to be vulnerable and allowed me to learn more about my real self.” – Past participant

Emerge from this program with:

  • Renewed ability and resilience to disrupt racism in yourself, others, and communal spaces
  • A deepened spiritual practice and connection to Higher Power to resist burnout
  • A set of concrete tools to support your antiracism efforts

Expected Activities:

This program is designed to hold multiracial community and will include group learning and discussion, head-heart antiracist spiritual practice, creative journaling, guided meditation, art time, and opportunities for physical movement and walks around the campus and surrounding forests.

“This course was a beautiful communal experience. I’m so grateful to have a community of learners to work with in future, and I feel much more capable of engaging in long-term anti-racist work without burnout. Whew!! Kind of life-changing really.” – Past participant

This course builds on an existing understanding of systemic racism and focuses on the application of antiracism through communities of practice. Please only register if you feel you have an understanding of the systemic nature of racism.
