Since the dawn of humanity, along with the need for food, clothes and shelter, the urge to communicate has been encoded into our DNA. Explore and examine ancient scripts from east and west Africa, including Ethiopia (Ge’ez) and Ghana (Adinkra), both of which boast long, ancient traditions of art and design.
Some of the world’s oldest known systems of communication, these ancient alphabets are bursting with colour and symbol, inspiring graphic designers, filmmakers, and textile artists. Bring your medium of choice and immerse yourself in the creative genius of the ancients.
This truly unique workshop takes its cue from the Adinkra symbol Sankofa, which means go back and get it – in other words, learn from the past!
All welcome. No design experience necessary.
